Hiking Itinerary in La Palma
In case you do not know, we want to inform you that in the Canary Islands there are multiple alternatives for hiking. Of course, one of the prettiest is, indeed, that of La Palma, not in vain known as the beautiful island.
Arrival in La Palma
Arrival at La Palma Airport. As soon as you arrive, a taxi will be waiting to take you to your accommodation in La Palma for your first night. In case you arrive very early at your hotel, the best plan that we can recommend is to go by bus to Santa Cruz de La Palma, the capital of the island.
Yes, you can also go to the beach to get some rest or enjoy your first afternoon in the hotel pool.
From Los Franceses to Barlovento
Today, after breakfast, at the exit your hotel will wait for you a taxi to take you to los Franceses , an impressive route overlooking the Camino Real de Gallegos , which is located between the Los Franceses ravine and the Barranco de los Hombres. You will pass through La Tosca , characterized by its historic Dragos.
Your route will end right in the same hotel where you'll sleep tonight and tomorrow night. You have there an outdoor and indoor pool to enjoy the end of the afternoon after a long hike.
From La Casa del Monte to Los Sauces
Today from your hotel, we will take you to Casa del Monte, north of the island, where you begin your journey of the day. From there you'll walk through the natural reserve of the Los Tilos Forest a UNESCO Heritage Site since 2002.
You will pass through some very narrow tunnels that take you to the end, you'll have the great satisfaction of finding yourself at the end with the sources of Marcos and Cordero. If you prefer, you can shorten your route by 5 kilometres if, previously, you request the transfer back from the visitor's centre of Los Tilos to your hotel.
The route ends in the town of Los Sauces, the most urban area of the municipality of San Andrés y Sauces, where they will pick you up to take you back to the hotel where you will sleep tonight.
From Pico de la Nieve to the Virgen del Pino Chapel
Early today, we will take you to the beginning of the Pico de La Nieve from where you start your route today. On it, you will walk along the edge of the deep Caldera de Taburiente, a protected area of volcanic nature, characterized by a large number of water resources it possesses, both underground and superficial.
Afterwards, you will continue on an extensive descent through magnificent pine groves until you reach the Chapel of Virgen del Pino, inaugurated in 1930 and where the Virgin Mary is venerated under the dedication of the Virgen del Pino, as according to tradition, the image of the Virgin appeared on the Giant Canary pine that rises in the Chapel square.
Finally, you will be transported in a taxi to Los Llanos de Aridane, whose main characteristic, as its name implies, are the small number of slopes that it has compared to other areas of the island of La Palma.
From Caldera de Taburiente to Los Llanos
Very early in the morning, they will take you to Los Brecitos, in the heart of the National Park of La Caldera de Taburiente, of volcanic nature, where you start your descent until you reach the mouth of the River Taburiente. Afterwards, you will go to the Roque Sagrado Idafe, a rock of phonological structure that was declared a Natural Monument, and that has a very special meaning for the inhabitants of La Palma.
Once there, you can ask any local person. Finally, our main recommendation today is that you enjoy and take all the photos you can in La Cascada de Colores, dyed by the sulphur generated by La Caldera, and whose charm to combine waterfalls with wonderful stones, will be unforgettable. When you finish your route today, a taxi will be waiting for you that will take you back to Los Llanos to return to your accommodation.
From Pico Birigoyo to Punta de Fuencaliente
Once again, in the morning, a taxi will pick you up at your hotel to go to Pico Birigoyo, an ancient volcano located about 1,800 metres above sea level, which is located in the El Pilar recreational area.
Here you start your route passing through the numerous volcanoes of La Cumbre Vieja, enjoying breathtaking views if the weather is benign. The route ends at La Punta de Fuencaliente. In the afternoon, a taxi will take you back to Los Llanos de Aridane.
From El Pico Bejenado to the National Park Visitor Centre
Today you start the last stretch of your hiking route through La Palma. In the morning, a taxi will be waiting for you that will take you to La Cumbrecita, where the ascent begins until you reach Pico Bejenado. Do not worry much at the beginning, it may seem hard and steep, given that in less distance than you think you will get great satisfaction.
You will begin to enjoy the spectacular views of the Teide volcano, on the island of Tenerife, as well as all that the Caldera de Taburiente offers you. Your route ends at the National Park Visitor Centre, where a taxi will pick you up to return to Cancajos and go to your hotel.
