Hiking trail in the Barolo Vineyards
Arrival in Alba
Today you will arrive in Alba either from Turin or from Milan, and in any case, we suggest that you make this journey by train. Once you arrive in Alba, you will find a charming medieval town, located in the centre of the Piedmont region.
As a curious fact, we would tell you that near Alba you will find the famous Ferrero Rocher factory.
From Roddi to Vergne-Barolo
For your day today you will have a transfer that will take you to Roddi to start your walk. You will advance through hills until you reach the top of one of them, just before you finish your route.
Once in Vergne-Barolo, we suggest a visit to one of the traditional wineries in the area that offers wine tastings. It will be the ideal reward on your first day of travel.
From Vergne-Barolo to Monforte d'Alba
Today you will walk through the entire Barolo region until you reach Novello and, a short time later, you will have reached the exact area where the famous Italian Barolo wine is produced, with the designation of origin from the area.
When you're in Barolo, you can't miss the museum dedicated to the city and its wine, as well as its flagship wine cellar, both located in the Castello dei Marchesi Falletti.
There, you can visit very old barrels that are preserved as an exhibition and have been commemorated by UNESCO, as well as vintage bottles from 1859.
As you continue your walk after learning about this wonder of the wine world, you will continue to advance through more vineyards until you reach Monforte d'Alba, whose name is derived from the castle walls located on a mountain.
From Monforte d'Alba to Cissone
For today, you will have a beautiful multiplicity of landscapes and hills around you. You will encounter new vineyards and continue to advance until you reach the village of Serralunga d'Alba.
Afterwards, you will have an ascent towards Roddino, then descend again to Cissone. To reach your final destination, there will be a short climb to end your fourth day of hiking.
Circular route in Cissone
And as the name of this route indicates, your trip is dedicated to the vineyards of the region, so today, in addition to advancing in the middle of several of them, you will see around a multitude of medieval castles that will give a charming touch to the route.
You will start and end in Cissone, one of the areas with the greatest tradition in the Piedmont region to have a good glass of wine in its popular canteen atmosphere. Take the opportunity to do so at the end of your walk.
From Cissone to Cravanzana
If you've ever been told about Alba's famous white truffle, today may be the day you come across some of them. Your route today will pass through the highest areas of the Langhe hills, so the change of landscape will become apparent.
And if in addition to seeing the white truffles, in case you are lucky enough to find them, you might also want to try them, so do not hesitate to ask about them at dinner time. I'm sure the local restaurant you visit will be able to offer them to you.
From Cravanzana to Cortemilia
On your last day hiking in the Piedmont area you will come across all kinds of landscapes, so enjoy each of them to the fullest. You will pass through small municipalities of less than 300 inhabitants such as Torre Bormida and Bergolo, as well as multiple paths, both paved and forested.
Return from Cortemilia
Today you must return on your own from Cortemilia to Alba by local bus or a pre-reserved taxi. The bus does not run on Sundays, so in this case we suggest you take the option to book a taxi with us.
Once there, you must return to the city from where you can take your flight back to your home city*. Whether it's to Milan or Turin, we recommend you to make this journey by train.
*Remember that when you book your circuit, you can ask us to book additional hotel nights for the days after the end of your circuit to extend your stay in one of the municipalities on the hiking route through the Barolo Vineyards.
