    Arrival in Alcoutim

Today you will arrive at Faro Airportt from where you have an included transfer to your accommodation in tAlcoutimt, and where you will spend your first night. Once there, on the tborder between Portugal and Spaint, we recommend that you take a walk around its square and from there enjoy the hills and the river that surround it.

    Overnight: Alcoutim

    From Alcoutim to Balurcos

Today you will walk along the river, to the north, surrounded tby almond and olive groves.t Later on, you will start walking through valleys and small towns where you will have the opportunity to take some stunning photos to remind you of how the orchards adorn the landscape within these municipalities.

When you pass through Cortes Pereiras, we advise you to stop and rest and have a drink, then continue walking through forests, hills and quiet villages until you reach Balurcos.

    Length: 24 km

    Overnight: Balurcos

    From Balurcos to Furnazinhas

For your route today, you will have a little more time to rest as the walk will be shorter than yesterday. You will leave Balurcos and find flat ground at the beginning, and then start ascending.
Later, you will walk through forests that, during the spring, give a very particular touch to the area with the striking green blooms which can be seen there.

Once you arrive in Ribeira da Foupana, we suggest you take some time off on the pebble beach so you can enjoy the tranquillity of the ravine. It is important that before you start your walk today you make sure that the current is not very strong because of rains.

At the end of your day you will arrive in Furnazinhas, a municipality recognized both for its family size bread and for being home to cane basket weavers (useful for this type of bread) a tradition that dates back several centuries. In short, a charming village.

    Length: 14 km

    Overnight: Furnazinhas

    From Furnazinhas to Vaqueiros

Today again you will face a day with a little more difficulty, with some steep terrain and deserted villages, so it is essential that you bring some food and drink for the day.

As you walk, the panoramas will make the effort worthwhile, for example, the Monte das Preguicas. Finally, you will arrive in Vaqueiros, where you will sense the existence of a rural community that has its origins from the Arab period.

In this town we recommend you to try the fresh bread and cheese, typical of this area so that you can take advantage once you have arrived and you can then go to your accommodation to rest with the satisfaction of having enjoyed its gastronomy.

    Length: 20 km

    Overnight: Vaqueiros

    From Vaqueiros to Cachopo

Today's day will be a little shorter again, even though its landscape will have some ascents and paths that do not go in a straight line. There will also be a few municipalities on your path, so we recommend that you are prepared with food and drinks for the day.

When you leave Vaqueiros in a south-westerly direction to reach Barranco do Velho you will find a landscape highlighted by plants known as cistus, in beautiful colours and responsible for the recovery of degraded soil.

As you walk you will find large pine plantations, as well as orchards within quiet villages characterized by the typical water-wheeled wells that we will see throughout the area.

Once in Cachopo, if you arrive early, we recommend that you enjoy the experience of preparing and trying the 'medronho', a traditional brandy from the region.

    Length: 14 km

    Overnight: Cachopo

From Cachopo to Barranco do Velho

Since today's hike is almost 30 kilometres, it will be shortened by taking a transfer halfway through to your final destination.

Your journey will take you through the Serra do Caldeirao, where the variety of birds and its impressive hills will impress you. Later on your route, you will also find small villages and forests of cork oak and strawberry trees, traditional in this region of Portugal.

You will continue your route to Odeleite, a beautiful village located on the hillside. Once there, you will climb for 45 minutes to Parises, from where you will have the transfer that will take you to your destination today: Barranco do Velho.

    Length: 29 km

    Overnight: Barranco do Velho

From Barranco do Velho to Salir

For your last day of walking, you will start on a flat route where you will have spectacular panoramic views all around you. Then you will start a descent surrounded by forested ravines until you start to see a difference in landscapes, moving from mountainous and lonely lands to agricultural and populated areas.

Once in Salir, whose Arabic meaning is 'disappearance', we suggest you enjoy its folklore and its variety of beautiful flowers, including orchids. Also, if before you could not enjoy the 'medronho', here you can visit a distillery and learn more about this traditional drink.

    Length: 15 km

    Overnight: Salir

    Return from Salir

Today you will have a transfer included to Faro Airport, from where you will take your flight back to your home city*.
