Arrival in Monchique
Today you will arrive at Faro Airport from where you will be taken to your accommodation in Monchique, the highest town in the Algarve, located in the middle of a lush forest.
If you arrive with enough time, we suggest you get to know its main square, walk through the town's streets and have a drink in one of its traditional restaurants.
From Monchique to Marmelete
For your route today you will be expected to visit a former convent, from the 17th century, named Nossa Senhora do Desterro (Our Lady of Exile). You'll start with a steep climb that will ultimately be worth it for the views waiting for you at the top. You will continue your route through a forest of eucalyptus and in the middle of large rock outcrops.
You will continue through the Penedo do Buraco ravine, then pass by a small dam and reach a valley full of agricultural terraces. After this, you will find yourself in Madrinha where you will get to know its wind farm.
Then you will have another ascent to the Mirador de Picos, from where you will finally descend to Marmelete, your destination for today. Once there, we suggest you try the 'medronho', a famous drink from the region known as 'firewater'.

An example of them is Romeiras, where we suggest you stop for a drink or a bite to eat. You will then continue your route to Corsino, on a flat road, from where you will see the Bravura Dam. As you progress around it, you'll see signs that tell you how to get to your destination today: Vale de Lobos.
