Gran Canaria, one of the two largest islands in the Canary Islands, offers multiple climates and thermal floors for trekking enthusiasts to enjoy all kinds of environments throughout their trek.

For good reason, Gran Canaria is known as the miniature continent, as its multiplicity of mountains and coastlines, so that, in less than 30 minutes you can change the climate from a humid and colder one to a warm and sunnier one.

You will start at Agaete, where we recommend you to try the fresh fish paella and its famous goat’s cheese. Then you will walk along the Camino Real from where you can see great ravines and enjoy its nature.

A few days later you will encounter the famous Roque Nublo, in Tejeda, the most characteristic peak on the island. Then you will make a route to the Pico de Las Nieves, the highest peak in Gran Canaria.

Finally, you will go to the municipality of La Lechuza, from where you can choose two options to finish your trip: A new hiking route or a visit to the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Hiking Itinerary in Gran Canaria

1

Arrival in Gran Canaria

Arrival at Gran Canaria airport. As soon as you arrive, a driver will be waiting to take you to your accommodation in the municipality of Agaete, where you'll spend your first night. Once you are in Agaete, we suggest you take a walk through this relaxing and charming fishing village, where you will also have the opportunity to get to know and enjoy its natural pools.

Dinner included.

2

The Camino Real route

Breakfast included.

Today we start your trekking route on the island of Gran Canaria and, for this first stage, you will go up a long way towards the town of San Pedro. Afterwards, you will be able to start your ascent to the Bibique Mountain by crossing the Camino Real.

During the trip, you will have the whole Agaete Valley in view, as well as the impressive cliffs that characterize the north of the island. You will continue walking towards the Vuelta de la Paloma viewpoint, enjoying the views of multiple valleys, until you reach Puerto de Las Nieves, from where you start your descent down a narrow road.

Once you get to the end of your trek, we recommend you take a taxi or a bus back to Agaete. Also, if you are afraid of heights, we suggest that once you get to the viewpoint, turn back and return to the hotel.

3

Route to Tejeda

Breakfast and dinner included.

Today you will enjoy a hike around the municipality of Tejeda, in the very centre of the island of Gran Canaria, where you can enjoy multiple visits to museums, get to know the city centre and, why not, enjoy an exquisite typical Canarian dish. You will be transported by taxi for a short trip to start your hike of the day, which receives you with two considerably pronounced ascents.

You will go down the old Camino Real to the village of Fagajesto, where you'll arrive after an asphalt section. Once you have finished this first section, we suggest you rest your feet a little before starting the ascent through pine forests near the municipality of Gáldar.

Once you have gone down to Cruz de Tejeda, you can see your final destination, Tejeda, to where you will have to descend the last stretch, passing through an ancient volcanic crater with exceptional sea views. As a curious fact, we remind you that you are in the first and only municipality of the Canary Islands that belong to the association of 'The Most beautiful villages in Spain'. Enjoy!

4

Trekking to Roque Nublo

Breakfast included.

Today you will walk around the heart of Gran Canaria, the Roque Nublo Monument, touring the steep volcanic terrain that surrounds it. Most of the hike will be along natural stony trails, but very simple to transit, as well as some by dirt roads and others on asphalt.

As you ascend, you will see multiple eroded ravines, and if you look up, no doubt you will delight in observing the distance the famous Roque Nublo Monument, point of reference on the island despite not being the highest.

At the end of your route, you will reach the top of Roque Nublo, declared a Natural Monument in 1987, from where the breath-taking views of the whole island will remind you that all the effort of the day has been worthwhile. When you start the descent to take the bus back to Tejeda, enjoy the passage through multiple pine forests.

5

From Tejeda to Artenara

Breakfast included.

Today's route will take you to Artenara. You will pass by dirt roads, asphalt and some others surrounded by pine trails. Once there, if you have time, we suggest you go to the Artenara Cave Museum, which teaches visitors the way of life in the caves. Also, it is essential that you know the Sanctuary of the Virgen de la Cuevita, whose tradition goes back to the appearance of the Virgin Mary (centuries ago) inside one of the caves.

Today, it will be one of the best trails, throughout all the Altavista mountain range, surrounding the Tamadaba Natural Park. At the end of your hike, you will be transferred back to Tejeda, where we suggest you visit the spice garden and taste some of them. Once in the hotel, remember that you can also see the Roque Bentayga, the second most important peak of the island after Roque Nublo.

6

From La Culata to La Lechuza

Breakfast and dinner included.

Today you will be moved to La Culata from where you start your ascent today to La Cumbre, in the north of Gran Canaria, characterized by its green colour. You will reach the Roque Nublo and, as you walk there, enjoy the views of the highest peak of the island: Pico de las Nieves. 7
