Hiking trail in Las Alpujarras

1

Arrival in Granada

Today you will arrive in the beautiful Granada, famous for the Palatine city of La Alhambra, where we suggest you to start getting to know the Moorish and Andalusian culture that mix in this spectacular city.

2

Circular route of your choice

Breakfast and dinner included.

Today you must take public transport to Capileira, the most important municipality of Las Alpujarras, where you can choose from several types of hike for your second day in Andalusian lands.

All trail options for today will be through the River Poqueira Valley and their duration can range from three and a half hours up to five hours, depending on which one you choose to take. Along the walk, you will come across large agricultural fields while enjoying the spectacular views of Las Alpujarras.

3

From Capileira to Pórtugos

Breakfast and dinner included.

Today you will walk through beautiful villages and trails that will allow you to pass through Bubión, Mecina, Fondales and Atalbéitar. As a curious fact, we would like to tell you that the name Atalbéitar comes from the Arabic "harat albáytar", which means "The veterinarian neighbourhood".

You will then arrive in an ancient Mediterranean forest where you will find large pine plantations. Finally, you will cross the town of Taha de Pitres, an administrative division of Nasrid heritage, famous for its medicinal waters.

Once in Pórtugos, your final destination today, you will find a typical village of the La Alpujarra area in Granada, whose houses retain the Berber style of flat roof. We suggest you walk through its streets surrounded by flowers and red peppers.

4

From Pórtugos to Trevélez

Breakfast and dinner included.

Today you will walk through the River Treveléz valley, from where you can enjoy the views of the Sierra Nevada. Your path continues until you reach the town renowned as being the highest in Spain, at 1,476 metres above sea level: Trevélez.

This town has a well-deserved reputation for its exquisite hams, which we recommend you try along with a glass of local wine. It will be the ideal reward for the end of your route. Trevélez was the town that in 1492 resisted the takeover of Granada by the Catholic Monarchs, so, here you will find a village full of history.

5

Circular route of your choice in Trevélez

Breakfast and dinner included.

For your route today you have three circular route options around Trevélez. The first, and longest, is the Sierra Nevada. If you're not too tired from previous days, encourage yourself to do it.

The second is a quieter and smoother walk around the village and, the third, is a route full of history along the famous Camino de Granada.

6

From Trevélez to Bérchules

Breakfast and dinner included.

On your penultimate day of walking, you will go through diverse and beautiful Andalusian villages. You will walk through forests, some uneven trails and many narrow paths full of nature.

Although you will have a route of considerable difficulty, everything will be compensated by the Sierra Nevada mountain range that you will always have at hand to enjoy its beauty. The highest point of this trail will be El Portichuelo, from where you can see the well-known route to Africa.

7

Optional walk, return to Granada and visit Alhambra

Breakfast included.

Today you can take a new walk through the Rio Grande valley, walking along an old irrigation canal until you reach the ruins of an ancient Moorish silk wash house dating back to the 13th century.

After this walk, if you decide to do it, you will have to take a bus to return to Granada. Once there, we recommend that you visit the Alhambra, this Moorish palace adorned with mosaics and so traditional of the Andalusian region.

We also suggest you take a walk through the Generalife Gardens, with its flowers and fountains that you will fall in love with. For these visits, you must book in advance via the web so that you do not leave without enjoying its charm.
